  • This epidemiologic analysis revealed that mortality rates are increasing in the middle-aged white male population, largely due to preventable conditions like poisonings and overdoses.

  • Reductions in mortality were seen in other racial groups.

American Cancer Society, in a Shift, Recommends Fewer Mammograms

By DENISE GRADY OCT. 20, 2015

New York Times

One of the most respected and influential groups in the continuing breast-cancer screening debate said on Tuesday that women should begin mammograms later and have them less frequently than it had long advocated.

The American Cancer Society, which has for years taken the most aggressive approach to screening, issued new guidelines on Tuesday, recommending that women with an average risk of breast cancer start having mammograms at 45 and continue once a year until 54, then every other year for as long as they are healthy and expected to live another 10 years.

The organization also said it no longer recommended clinical breast exams, in which doctors or nurses feel for lumps, for women of any age who have had no symptoms of abnormality in the breasts.

One of the biggest tragedies of human civilization is the precedence of chemical therapy over nutrition. It's a substitution of artificial therapy over natural, of poisons over food, in which we are feeding people poison trying to correct the reactions of starvation. You all know how ridiculous that is, but you all know how widely it's being done.

The just-passed resolution recognizes naturopathy as "safe, effective, affordable health care" and specifically recognizes the value of ND's in preventing disease. (ND's are currently licensed in 17 states, more to come.) It also designates a week for Naturopathic Medicine---Oct 7-13 this year.

Senate Passes Naturopathic Medicine Week Resolution
The U.S. Senate last night unanimously passed a resolution designating October 7 - October 13 as Naturopathic Medicine Week.

The resolution recognizes the value of naturopathic medicine in providing "safe, effective, and affordable health care..." and encourages Americans to learn about the role of naturopathic physicians in preventing chronic and debilitating conditions.

Passage of this resolution is an historic achievement for naturopathic medicine. The Congress has now officially recognized the important role naturopathic medicine plays in effectively addressing the nation's health care needs as well as in addressing the increasingly severe shortage of primary care physicians.

Great to hear a conventional oncologist going over the recent research and saying that doctors should suggest walking instead of chemo for cancer patients. But guess what: it's more effective. So getcha some sneaks and get out there. And get a dog: it will MAKE you walk.

If you know me, you know that I have mixed feelings about Obamacare. My issue with it is the fact that insurance is not healthcare, and modern healthcare would be better named sickcare for the profit of insurance. But since Obama is back in, and the law passed the Supreme Court challenge, I'm going to be working under it. What a sad state of affairs to be required to purchase insurance that would not cover naturopathic care. So I signed the petition, and I hope you will too.

The Cochrane folks have determined that mammography is no longer indicated as cancer screening for women of any age! Here's the brochure: http://www.cochrane.dk/screening/mammography-leaflet.pdf. You can get them in any language at: http://www.cochrane.dk/.

Mercola breaks it down quite well in this article.
Here's the latest (Aug 2011) study.

Excellent article here by Dr Schor, on Aspirin/Cox inhibitors for breast cancer prevention or prevention of recurrence:
http://www.naturalmedicinejournal.com/article_content.asp?edition=1§ion=2&article=271&utm_source=Natural+Medicine+Journal+List&utm_campaign=6379125056-December_2011_Issue11_28_2011&utm_medium=email
Pearl: Over-expression of COX-2 occurs in about 40% of invasive breast cancer cases and is more common in large tumors, positive lymph nodes, ductal histology, and tumors that are high histological grade or hormone receptor–negative. Thus it makes even more sense to attempt to affect COX activity in women whose cancers fit these criteria.

Obviously Mercola has been studying hard on fluoride lately, because he keeps posting about it. Unfortunately it is becoming apparent that we are ingesting this toxin with our food, not just from drinking water. And as usual the EPA, FDA and business have danced their dance, compromising the health of the people for the profits of business. Fluoride is in a fumigant used on produce, especially walnuts and raisins out of California, and other foods are also suspect. Bottom line: whole organic food is just about your only way to avoid all the nasty shit that industry puts on food. Better yet: whole organic local homegrown food.

Ever since a few brave scientists started speaking out about their findings---that mammograms weren't actually savings lives, that they aren't the best way to screen for breast pathology---the numbers of women who are going in for regular breast squishing and irradiation has been on the decrease. And the folks who were in that biz are not happy about it. Their pockets aren't so full anymore.

Dr Lawrence was recommending just about everyone get on low dose aspirin because of its cancer preventative effects. I hadn't heard that, so I just googled it (scholar) and found this review of 91 studies that shows a strong anti-cancer effect in many common cancers. In my current schooling NSAIDS are considered evil because they are hard on the intestine and kidneys. Specifically they can cause a breakdown of the gut lining that leads to immune dysregulation and even autoimmune disease. But as with coffee, the evil is balanced with the good: the lesson I take from this new information is that moderation is the key. No point in overreacting to any one piece of information, no point in being a tee-totaller or a total obsessive nutcase about your intakes.

Add to this info that not everybody can use the form of B6 that is in cheap vitamins. About 1/4 of us have to buy the fancy B6 that is activated by methylation, because for genetic reasons we aren't good at methylating our own. Methylation is one of the main pathways by which your liver makes toxic lipophilic compounds water soluble so they can be excreted. B6 is key for supporting methylation, but if you can't methylate, you can't activate the B6 you get, so you MUST buy the supplement! For example, B6 is depleted in women who take birth control pills, and remains depleted for years after they stop. Just a FYI! I always have wanted to believe that I could get all the nutrition I needed from food, but I'm not so sure anymore. Considering the increasing insults of toxins and hormonally active substances in our environments, we can use all the help we can get. Provided we can figure out what is helpful and what is not. It is not so obvious....

Dear Supporters of Naturopathic Medicine,

Please take a moment to let your state legislators know you support HJ 124 (http://www.capwiz.com/naturopathic/issues/alert/?alertid=14687606).
It should take less than 90 seconds.
