Why Mercola recommends krill instead of fish oil.

(I still take fish oil.)

Why cook with coconut and NEVER with olive oil, why processed olive oil might be better than extra olive, and also how to keep your extra virgin olive oil from turning rancid.
News to me: the chlorophyll in extra virgin olive oil actually makes it rancidify faster.

It turns out that eating a diet rich in polyphenols and polyunsaturated fats actually encourages your brain to grow new cells!

POLYPHENOL SOURCES
most legumes
apples, grapes, pears, plums, cantaloupe
blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries
cherries, cranberries
broccoli, cabbage, celery, onion and parsley
also found in:
red wine, chocolate, green tea, coffee, olive oil, bee pollen (honey) and many grains

POLYUNSATURATED FATS
means omega 3 and 6
grain products, soybeans
herring, salmon, mackerel, halibut, fish oil (omega 3)
mayo, margarine, depending (read the label)
sunflower, safflower, etc oils (omega 6)

Ooooh, another interesting study: oxidative stress causes an upregulation of NMDA receptors on the cerebrovascular endothelium, and "heightens susceptibility to glutamate induced BBB disruption."

He's now saying that cod liver oil has too much vitamin A in it, and that while nearly everyone in the US is vitamin D deficient, some 5% of us have too much vitamin A, or "vitamin A toxicity". Vitamin A toxicity causes a person to be susceptible to infections. So instead of consuming cod liver oil in the winter to maintain vitamin D levels, he recommends getting sunshine on your skin. He says if this is not an option, "the next best choice would be exposure to UVB rays from safe tanning beds, and if that is not possible then one should resort to a high quality vitamin D3 supplement." Me, I'm doing these last two options. My vitamin D level, tested a couple of weeks ago, was 29. My doc recommends a level between 50-90. I'm taking Biotics Research Corporation brand Bio-D-Mulsion Forte, two drops a day, and going to a tanning place. I got burned the last time I went to the tanning beds, though, so I'm still working out the bugs. And the tanning bed people want you to think that UVB is bad, and charge you more for beds that have less. If you go this route, do some research and don't believe all that you are told!

Lyme Disease Cases Double in U.S.: CDC
According to statistics released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of cases of Lyme disease has doubled in the U.S. since 1991. (that's 16 years) More than 21,000 cases are now reported every year, making it the most common illness transmitted by insects or animals in the country. The CDC says these figures are most likely an underestimation as not all cases are reported.

Fish Oil Shows Promise in Brain Disorders
Fish oil is increasingly showing promise as a complementary medicine. There is evidence that fish oil supplements rich in omega-3 fatty acids can help treat bipolar and attention deficit disorders in children. A small study found a 30% reduction in manic symptoms with no side effects among children diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
