Out on the edge
you see all kinds of things
you can’t see from the center.
Big, undreamed-of things -
the people on the edge
see them first.

~ Kurt Vonnegut

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

~ Rumi

This is the guy we boated with last weekend on the Klickitat. Terry is an avid supporter of First Descents and volunteers whenever he can, including safety boating. We paddled from the Ice House down about 5 miles. Tailz flipped over just once, predictably at a powerful seam, and hung out for a T rescue. He was directed by a paddler (Frannie May) going backward down the river ahead of him talking.

Headaches can be divided into two major categories, known as primary and secondary headaches. Primary headaches are those that occur for no known cause, and are grouped as either migraine, tension, or cluster headaches. They are said to not be caused by an underlying medical condition, and constitute 90% of all headaches. Secondary headaches are because you have a tumor, bleed, infarction, infection, or other brain injury. Some 12% of all Americans suffer from headaches.

There is one thing that, when cultivated and regularly practiced,
leads to deep spiritual intention, to peace,
to mindfulness and clear comprehension, to vision and knowledge,
to a happy life here and now,
and to the culmination of wisdom and awakening.
And what is that one thing? It is mindfulness centered on the body.

He has kicked off quite the furor after beating the mainstream Republican in the Kentucky primary. The media is all over him, calling him nuts. The girls at my school were completely positive that he is a Racist. I wonder if they even know why they think he is a racist. The web is calling him racist because he doesn't agree with part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Well I haven't studied the law, but I am positive that if I did I would find something about it that I don't agree with either. Does that make me a racist? We have a new definition of racist!! Are there not more ways to abolish racism than this one law? Is political correctness always so simple minded? I'd love to see a reasonable intellectual discussion of the issues before the witch hunt begins. His position is incomprehensible from the liberal groupthink mindset, hence he must be insane.

Last week I went to my first ever Kundalini class, taught by a fellow student. I had no idea what to expect, and was open to whatever happened. In the beginning I was informed that Kundalini is NOT a Hatha yoga. OK. The practice involved several exercises in which we laid on our backs and held our arms and feet in the air, while practicing the breath of fire. The breath of fire consists of rapid forced exhalations with relaxed but fast inhalations. The exhalations may be through the nose or mouth, depending.

The assignment: write up a homeopathic remedy from a non-homeopathic perspective, ie: don't give indications according to repertory, instead, find out more about the source of the medicine, and the history. I choose belladonna.

In the distance a metal machine is banging rhythmically and ringing with a medium tone. The radio is playing the BBC program World Have Your Say, on why nobody seems willing to criticize Obama. I am willing. He just doesn't tell me enough specifics for my criticisms to be anything more than not knowing his intentions or character, and being fairly certain that like the other republicrats he is unlikely to make the really big forward-thinking changes that we need to make in the way our nation is run. He's not talking about our national debt, bankruptcy and failing currency, our impending inability to fund medicare, medicaide and social security, our overextended and unpopular military presence in 130 nations. Did you know that we have 75,000 troops stationed in Germany? How long has it been since we have been at war there? What are we DOING?? ....Obama is not talking about the stuff that I care about, so I don't trust him. I don't think he has the guts to buck the system. I think he wants a long and glorious political career, and that means following the rules.
