widely accepted that both l-tryp and 5HTP ameliorate depression w/o SEs
but serotonin DOES have SEs
research suggests serotonin hinders formation of new bone-->net loss
supplements increasing serotonin, 5HTP, melatonin, or L-tryptophan detrimental to bone???

Methotrexate Resistance
Jun. 13th, 2009 07:31 pmMethotraxate is one of the drugs often used in chemotherapy. It interferes with folate metabolism by acting as a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. Without this enzyme, the cells are starved for tetrahydrofolate, and unable to make purines (adenine, guanine) and dTPM. This is especially toxic to fast-growing cells, like cancer cells.

May. 6th, 2007 04:24 pmIt's commonly known that scurvy is caused by vitamin C deficiency. The Latin name for the disease is scorbutus, and the name "ascorbic acid" (for vit C) is derived from this name of the disease. It was first described by Hippocrates about 300-400 BC, and was common among pirates and naval sailors until the 1900's.

Last night I went to a biochem tutoring session that I had arranged the week prior. I arranged it because I didn't know if I would be able to get all the answers to my takehome quiz, but in fact I had just understood the final question when my tutoring hour began. The tutor (Josh) and I covered my relevant questions fairly quickly, and then he asked if I knew about the grocery named Whole Foods. I said I did, and in fact that I had dropped a chunk of cash into their stock lately. That was worth a high five. He started to talk about John Mackey, president of Whole Foods, who he said I would appreciate. Having just scanned a couple of links, I find that Josh was right.

The next quiz in my class is on the 20 amino acids that are used in the human body. I have made my flash cards and begun to learn their structures and chemical characteristics.
