At least, that's what it sounds like from these emails I get from "The Pen". Why don't I hear about Impeachment from any of my other sources? You may recall that a while ago I was griping because Nancy Pelosi said "Impeachment is off the table" and proceded to work on everything but that. She is the speaker of the house, and as such, if both Bush and Cheney were impeached, she would be president. Nobody seems to want to talk about that possibility, least of all her.

I get this foul taste in my mouth whenever President Bush comes on the radio, and often turn it off. But for now I have him tuned in, listening to his speech. The pomp and ceremony, the applause and hurrahs, bother me because I believe this congress should be impreaching this man and our vice president as well. But instead they keep up the appearance of approval. It seems that we could sustain the honor of our government better by removing the devils, instead of continuing to pump them up. The world sees that they are full of hot air.

Another elder statesman proclaims his certainty that impeachment is the proper course forward. Why aren't we listening to our elders?

As long as all these contenders for president and congress are being nice and polite to the band of criminals that has taken over our government, they are no better. What is the point of making deals with the devil? It gets us nowhere. There is no being rational with the irrational ways of our current administration. The way to invigorate and ennoble our democracy is to IMPEACH Bush AND Cheney. Without getting real about the depths to which we have fallen, we will not be able to climb back out.

Here's Eliot D Cohen's argument for immediate impeachment instead of waiting for '08 to oust the bastards:
http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/contributors/1196

He anticipates that there will be another terrorist attack right on time to allow our current government to proclaim martial law prior to the '08 presidential election. If we let it get that far, what will we do then???

So here's the GOOD NEWS:
95,000 people have already voted in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll!!! That's a lot.
Dennis Kucinich has introduced a bill to impeach and 11 congressmen have signed on!!

I heard on the radio today that according to polls, the only people who are more unpopular than Bush are the Democratic Congress. And apparently it's been that way for a while. I know why. It's because Bush is as deceitful as he is, and they do nothing about it. They don't call him on it. The only way for this group of Democrats to earn the respect of the people during this term would be to finally stand up for what is true and right about our country, and impeach both our president and our vice president.

On this page there are a number of documents that can be downloaded, and one is a petition for a city resolution for impeachment. I'm posting it again so that the next time I'm near a printer I will remember to print up a few copies and get some signatures. Would you be interested in getting a few signatures too?

The wind started yesterday, and the snow started this morning. It is supposed to continue to snow throughout the day. Because it is so blustery, the snow is drifting. My window is wet from melting flakes. The roads are very slippery.

I've been learning history from listening to the tributes to President Ford after his death. I was a child when he served. Now I understand more about him and I am grateful that he was a president of this nation. It is widely believed that he was not re-elected because he pardoned Nixon. Lots of people have something to say about that decision. It isn't possible to know the true content of his thoughts when he made that decision, but I find myself among those who think that perhaps it was not the right choice.

Interestingly enough, my parents both fall pretty far to the left, driven farther in that direction by the current administration. I was raised with the idea that our planet is precious, and its resources are limited and to be used carefully. Shrub has driven my father to desperation. The link above was sent by him with the subject line: "someone finally described how I feel".

I have a newspaper clipping in my scrapbook of my mother's round ass, and above it a sign on her back saying "Impeach Bush".

My parents have been divorced for longer than they were married, but they agree on that.

I have one rabid republican in my family, and that is my father's brother. He listens to Rush Limbaugh. He bought a piece of property on the Virginia coast and decided to live there before he realized that all his neighbors are "niggers" (his word). He keeps a shotgun by the door. My father stays on speaking terms with him by not discussing politics.

Some of the people who have been held and interrogated as suspected terrorists by the US in detainment centers have been released. I have heard interviews and read about some of these people. In the ACLU newsletter there was a story about a German Muslim who was held so long that his family moved, thinking he had desserted them. He was an innocent man. We detained and tormented him when he tried to go on a vacation to the Middle East. Other innocents have been held and tortured by US. According to one man interviewed on This American Life we have offered a bounty to people turning in terror suspects, and a great number of the people who were turned in for a bounty were innocent. Too many people have died on our watch, and we will never know their real stories.
