My Parents' Politics

Interestingly enough, my parents both fall pretty far to the left, driven farther in that direction by the current administration. I was raised with the idea that our planet is precious, and its resources are limited and to be used carefully. Shrub has driven my father to desperation. The link above was sent by him with the subject line: "someone finally described how I feel".
I have a newspaper clipping in my scrapbook of my mother's round ass, and above it a sign on her back saying "Impeach Bush".
My parents have been divorced for longer than they were married, but they agree on that.
I have one rabid republican in my family, and that is my father's brother. He listens to Rush Limbaugh. He bought a piece of property on the Virginia coast and decided to live there before he realized that all his neighbors are "niggers" (his word). He keeps a shotgun by the door. My father stays on speaking terms with him by not discussing politics.

Good article
Date: 2006-07-19 08:01 pm (UTC)Can I make one observation/critique of your writing? Take it or leave it, and I'm not trying to be offensive here... just stating an opinion.
Your writings would seem more credible if you refrained from name calling. I know you have an extremely high level of frustration with the situation, but referring to Bush as "Shrub" and Republicans as "repugnicans" is really a turn-off. It makes me cringe to read those types of references in your otherwise very well-written posts. Again, just an observation and feel free to tell me to bug off and mind my own business if you want to.
Lunch hour over, back to work.

Date: 2006-07-19 10:28 pm (UTC)Perhaps you haven't noticed yet that I routinely refuse to capitalize the word "christian"? That's intentional as well. When they start acting more like Christ they'll get capitalized again. As long as they let the business-leader repugnicans run their religion for votes and "faith based initiatives" they'll get no love from me. Ooops. See, it makes me giggle. Like all those obnoxious stickers on the back of my truck.
Anybody else have a gut reaction to my use of name calling? Hmmmmmmm. When I call it name calling I have a reaction to it. In my head my invented words are ingenious synonyms. It's worth considering.
Also to consider: the question of whether or not I am going for credibility. I have no reason to expect that. I'm just another person with an (asshole and an) opinion based on a hazy composite of everything I've ever read or experienced. What I really wish for is for people to come back at me with a more coherent opinion than my own, not for them to assimilate mine.
Thanks Aughraseye! I don't want you to bug off. I value your insight AND your gut reactions. Keep 'em coming.
PS> You're right about the "high level of frustration."

Date: 2006-07-20 04:51 am (UTC)I'm contemplating sway force and what I want to do with this blog. So far it's more like a journal to me than an article that I devote to the public. Of course, the public can see this---so they can see inside my head................including the bitterness and fear..............anyway, I'm taking in your comment and appreciate you letting me KNOW. Ms Neptunia, queen of the sea which is warming at an alarming rate especially at the poles....
