I hate to rain on everybody's parades but voting is not enough!!! It is your responsibility as a citizen of a democracy to inform your self and vote. People act as if they are doing some kind of good deed. Voting is no longer sufficient as your duty to this country. Even if you think you have a candidate who can fix things, voting is not even close to enough. We have let our democracy slide so far that it is going to take more urgent measures to reclaim it. Here are a few ways that you can act above and beyond voting:

1) Get involved in our elections, because there's plenty of evidence that they are being stolen via computerized voting machines and via eliminating the poorer and less informed voters (such as the blacks in Fla).
a. Get citizens involved in the process, oversight, nothing should be done behind closed doors with no witnesses
b. Work at the next election
c. Help with exit polling at the next one
2) Work in voter registration: esp: help get more people registered republican so they can vote for Dr Paul in the primary
3) Talk to republicans, they are the largest group of regular voters who are not fully aware of Ron Paul. Having felt they had to defend the war all this time it will take them some time to come around to a less hawkish position.
4) Talk to your elders, the folks whose political patterns are well established. Help them understand how things are changing, have changed (esp since WWII, in terms of US hegemony and our desperation to maintain it)

More ideas?

Here's a bit by a person who never has voted for anyone in a presidential contest, and disagrees with Ron Paul on abortion and immigration. The challenges facing our nation and planet are so great that disagreements on these issues are relatively unimportant. The principled voter will only choose a principled candidate--one who can prioritize, instead of pandering to polls.

One THIRD of precincts in this US midterm election will be using new voting machines. Maybe that's why Shrub is so confident. Heh. One third is a lot. I wonder who got rich off that installation? I wonder: can they program those machines to do their bidding without getting caught? All you computer people out there, what do you think? Could another election be stolen with barely a whimper from the people?

I don't know this guy, but the more I learn about him the more I like him. He's a contractor here in Flagstaff, running for AZ Senate District 2 as an independent. He asserts in his candidate statement that the most important issues in Arizona, such as the impending water crisis, are being ignored or poorly handled. I couldn't agree more. His platform includes a tax break for purchases of fuel efficient autos, and eliminating property taxes entirely on primary residences. This is a great idea. He builds quality homes with high end insulation and windows, and passive solar design. Here's his website: http://www.markhaughwout.com/index.htm. His observations and ideas remind me of --- me. I look forward to my opportunity to meet him.

Haughwout, if elected, would be worth the proposed pay increase for legislators. Yes on 302.

PS. I was butchering his name, calling him Hogwort like the school in Harry Potter stories. My apologies to Mark. The proper pronunciation is "Howitt".

PPS. On voting, I hear that there were lines at the early voting polling place in Flagstaff yesterday. Apparently people were taking a long time to read all the propositions. YOU CANNOT MAKE GOOD DECISIONS ON THE PROPOSITIONS FROM THE BALLOT. The ballots are misleading, intentionally so. Several measures mimick other measures, esp the preservation and smoking issues, and it is impossible to know the full impact of most of the measures from the ballot language. It is absolutely necessary to look up the propositions ahead of time, if you want to vote in line with your own values. If you do not educate yourself about these issues, you will vote wrongly. The fact that people are taking a long time to read the ballots at the polling place is a terrible sign.

Home. ADP just tried to call twice. I don't pick up phone calls from unknown numbers, and ADP hung up twice. Curious, I googled ADP and the area code, 602. I concluded that it is the Arizona Democratic Party trying to call me. Not that I mind talking about politics. But I hate the blasted phone.
