Seems like these amazing things on the web are popping up everywhere. Unfortunately I have no time for extra surfing, because am going surfing on REAL WATER. So I just save up these links. A friend sent me this one by email. I intend to watch the one she recommends. Here's what she said about it:

We've discovered this wonderful project designed to deliver scientific knowledge and philosophy in musical form. It's incredible...I am in awe watching it. Watch "Ode to the Brain" which is on the first page of the link and you'll see what it's all about. Of course, you need sound turned on and full screen if your computer can handle it. Wow!

This site gives you usage stats and completes phrases for you. Not sure how useful it will turn out to be but it's interesting on first look.

I just got an email on my personal email account that is masquerading as a message through livejournal. It is someone with an Alzheimer's info site wanting me to direct people to their site using liveonearth. I am afraid to even click on the links from my own computer, since the message is inherently dishonest. It was not sent via livejournal, but it is designed to look like it was. I don't like that this person has my email address. I don't like how much info people can get about me without my willingly giving it out. Oh well, such is the internet age...

I recently started following Seth Godin's blog and have been enjoying it. Today's email missive is On pricing power at http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2011/02/on-pricing-power.html. It helps clarify a goal for my approach to my business: to have my naturopathic medical service be irreplaceable, essential and priceless. And I like his suggestions as to how to attain those values.

I haven't watched much TV in this life. It's because my family moved to Austria when I was 12, and I was broken of the young habit. When I returned at age 16, I couldn't believe how inane TV was. I could sit through it, but the most fascinating part for me was always the advertising. What are they selling, and how? If anyone hands me a remote control, to this day, the OFF button is where I'm going. I've been known to unplug people's TV's when they weren't looking, and to futz with the controls to make it hard to get back to their program. But I have a confession. Now that I am living in a city where I STILL don't have any close friends, my best friends are on the radio and the internet. And the two shows that I watch on Hulu both feature men who are cynical and adept at seeing through people (House and Lightman). I don't own a TV, but I have two computers and a wireless network. I just ran across a composite clip that simulates a conversation between the two men, and it cracked me up. If you don't know the characters, this will bore you. )

(but not associated with anxiety)

"People who are susceptible to depression are already more prone to social isolation and withdrawal and therefore more likely to develop problematic Internet usage because the Internet provides an outlet for them," Dr. Christakis observed. "So the findings from the study are highly plausible, and because it was longitudinal and adjusted for baseline levels of depression and Internet use, the findings are both novel and robust."

| "Dislike" Button Scam Hits Facebook Users |
| from the i-dislike-this dept. |

+----------------------------------------------------------+

An anonymous reader writes "A message saying 'I just got the Dislike
button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol!!' is spreading
rapidly on Facebook, tempting unsuspecting users into believing that they
will be able to "dislike" posts as well as "like" them. However,
[0]security researchers say that it is just the latest 'survey scam',
tricking Facebook users into into giving a rogue Facebook application
permission to access their profile, and posting spam messages from their
account. The rogue application requires victims to complete an online
survey (which makes money for the scammers) before ultimately redirecting
to a Firefox browser add-on for a Facebook dislike button developed by
FaceMod. "As far as we can tell, FaceMod aren't connected with the scam —
their browser add-on is simply being used as bait," says Sophos security
blogger Graham Cluley."

This is an interesting little websurf on obesity, leptin, DHEA, gum chewing, and other tricks for weight loss. I found no glaring factual errors. I like the way the pages lead into each other with questions. Why? Pretty smart web design.

There's fear and consternation on the conservative side that this bill, introduced by Rockefeller, will give Obama the power to shut down the internet. On the other hand, the goal of the bill is to address security threats and provide all US internet users with a higher level of security for our data. So the question is, are there national borders in the internet, and do we want our country to protect them for us?

On Saturday night I accidentally deleted internet explorer from my computer, and spent all day Sunday internet-free. I now understand that I am an addict, and I need to take measures to moderate my internet usage. I got so much done on Sunday!!! It was wonderful. =-]

I look it up from time to time....just to see how much the world can find out about me from just my name. I am happy to report that my name is uncommon enough that approximately 20% of the hits are about me. The other 80% are other women---who write poetry (middle initial L), breed bulldogs, run for office and loose, go to court, and work hard at researching their family's geneaology. I found my mother's telephone number online in an old post to a whitewater club's site, and asked them to remove her number from the web. I found my amazon wish list. I wish somebody would buy me things from that list.

Last week here in Portland, Oregon a 19 year old girl made a big mistake. She had told her boyfriend that she was pregnant when she actually wasn't. So desperate was she to get a child that she advertised on Craigslist that she had baby clothing to give away. Another young woman whose child was nearly due showed up to get the free clothing. The non-pregnant girl knocked her on the head, cut out the baby with a kitchen knife, and stuffed the dying woman's body into hiding. Then the baby started to die too, so she called 911. They asked her when she had given birth and she said "sometime yesterday". Needless to say, she's busted. The price of her selfish gory violence: three lives, theirs and hers too.

Today I go to the baby shower of a friend from school who is nearly due. I hope she hasn't heard this story. I am certainly not going to tell it.

Here he speaks to the fact that he sells products on his natural medicine website, and explains his motivations. I have followed his email newsletter since 2000. He started it in 1997. I have found that he often breaks news that nobody else will cover. He brings new science to my attention, and elaborates on the possible ramifications of it. He explains the conflicts of interest inherent in our system of corporate medicine. I find that he has no conflict of interest, his mission is clear and he is accomplishing it.

This so-called religion has been popping up in my cursory media scans more and more. I started to take more of an interest after reading one article (who knows where it is now) that said that this "Church" is more of a business than a religion, and that it is selling pharmaceuticals for the purpose of purification. Alternative medicine? Detoxes? My ears perked up. There is no mention of Scientology's medical stance on Wikipedia's current article on Scientology.
