I am hanging out at a roadside pullout with lots of hippies, somewhere in the south. There is a river down below, but the crowd isn't interested in the river. Instead everybody is hanging out with the cars and smoking dope. They're a friendly crowd and I am right at home. I am doing something, and when I finish I decide to head north, but instead I drive south. I go south a few miles before checking the map, turning around, and heading back toward more familiar grounds.

He's now saying that cod liver oil has too much vitamin A in it, and that while nearly everyone in the US is vitamin D deficient, some 5% of us have too much vitamin A, or "vitamin A toxicity". Vitamin A toxicity causes a person to be susceptible to infections. So instead of consuming cod liver oil in the winter to maintain vitamin D levels, he recommends getting sunshine on your skin. He says if this is not an option, "the next best choice would be exposure to UVB rays from safe tanning beds, and if that is not possible then one should resort to a high quality vitamin D3 supplement." Me, I'm doing these last two options. My vitamin D level, tested a couple of weeks ago, was 29. My doc recommends a level between 50-90. I'm taking Biotics Research Corporation brand Bio-D-Mulsion Forte, two drops a day, and going to a tanning place. I got burned the last time I went to the tanning beds, though, so I'm still working out the bugs. And the tanning bed people want you to think that UVB is bad, and charge you more for beds that have less. If you go this route, do some research and don't believe all that you are told!

Finished reading this book yesterday. The author, Joe Navarro, came to America as a child and exile from Cuba. He was an intelligent child, and immediately began to study people. His observation of nonverbal cues served him especially well because he could not understand the language, at first. Later he had a career with the FBI, interviewing suspects and watching their body language to establish what parts of their statements were suspect, or not. This book is his summary of important body gestures, for the layperson.

Guess what part of the body Joe says is most honest?

This morning they declared Multnomah County (the one I'm in, includes most of Portland) to be a federal disaster area. The news report was filled with city officials griping about how the snow had already cost the city $800,000 when the city budget was already strained. I think "disaster" is just a way for local governments to beg more money from the fed.
