Being a geek is all about
being honest about what you enjoy and
not being afraid to demonstrated that affection.
It means never having to play it cool
about how much you like something.
It's basically a license to proudly emote
on a somewhat childish level
rather than behave like a supposed adult.
Being a geek is extremely liberating.

Yeah, me too. So, you are in Portland, still? How's it treating you?

I gave it a shot. I lasted five months before I fully grasped that Portland/Vancouver has few permanent jobs in publishing (I filled in for a woman on maternity leave, but that of course ends) and that (more important) I can't really be happy without the specific brand of cycling classes that I had in Texas and DC. So back to DC I came, where jobs in my field are plentiful and I can take RPM anytime I want.

I'm glad I got to see the area, though; getting to look at Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens while I ran outside was neat. And I love overcast skies, so I do miss that. Going was worthwhile because it helped me figure myself out.

Right on. You sound like it's working out even with the detour. I thought there was a relationship involved, but I understand not wanting to talk about it on a public post.

Oh, yeah, Derrick's job did take him there, and he's still there working. We figure that as long as our house is still unsold in Texas, he might as well keep earning money. Then we can reunite here in DC. With the housing market instability, we've gotten used to living apart.

I'll pray for the house to sell. No point in getting used to living apart any more than you have to.

I'm going back to Oak Ridge on 4/16 to see my folks. It has been 3 years.
