A couple years ago I traded in my cell phone for an internet connection, and I have not regretted that exchange. Part of the reason the cell phone drove me crazy was that I was too easy to reach for my coworkers, essentially putting me "on call" all the time. The other reason is that I started reading about the radiation of the cell phone signal rearranging molecules in our brains, and possibly causing brain cancer. Well here's a new study that makes me worry about my friends who still mainly use a mobile phone. Please minimize your cell phone use! If the side of your head starts to feel warm, it's past time to hang up.

Here's a little about what the cell phone signal does to human neural tissue:

RF

So do we give up wireless home phones, tv's, radios, police radios, satellites, microwave transmission towers, computers, cofiee makers, and thunderstorms? They all give off RF radiation. We are bombarded with this stuff from all directions. But then again it might be nice if the planet would go dark again.

Sometimes, I fantasize about the world going dark.

Oh, joy. I'm glad I don't use my phone very much.

By the way, I decided to forego the film festival. I am just wiped out - I did way too much this week. I've been pretty much useless today, and tomorrow is already booked up. So, cest la vie, I can watch a French film another time on a better schedule.

Hope your weekend is going ok.

Are there similar issues with cordless phones w/in the home?

Coincidently I'm spreading the word about this fascinating neural issue:

Yes, cordless home phones are also suspect and as quayme points out there are many many sources of radiation that toy with our cells. The issue really comes down to how many hours/day do you hold the transmitter of such a signal adjacent to your brain? How close are the other signals to your body? If you live under a high voltage transmission line, that's putting a powerful field through you all the time too.

The world going dark sounds wonderful to me except.....what an incredible crisis it would be.

the INSULA

Fascinating article! I just heard of the insula last week for the first time---my mother emailed me something about it and I was baffled. Now I hear about it again. This particular brain part was not MENTIONED in my recent two semesters of Anatomy & Physiology. I guess it's just become a hot item. So are you thinking about trying to damage yours?

As with other things under scrutiny that have socio-political influence, the cool, fasionable, complex cortex with its IQ and poetry and culture takes the cake. The brain stem has always been an overlooked red haired step-child. I think, untimately, that the motive to find shade when hot clearly trumps the motive to learn psychology (or art or physics), and so I am beginning to think the more primitive, the more essential and the more reason to study it. These are off the cuff comments...of course... I might imagine many things involved in yoga's elements of the thought are transmitted through the insula. But that is strictly conjecture and has no basis in reality.

ok ok ok..if you drink too much alcohol you get cirrosis of the liver, if you hold a cell phone up to your head too often you get gliomas.
seems to me a recipe for happy and healthy living is moderation.
