I'm Proud of Obama

I just took the time to watch Barack Hussein Obama's Cairo speech. People disparage his "polished words" but I am overjoyed to have a president who is both educated and moral. Obama speaks for me. I agree that it is time for all peoples, all nations, all races, all individuals to cease and desist from the disrespect and violence that have poisoned our interactions. It is time to see all sides.

It was inspiring to hear the crowd's enthusiasm for his assorted quoted from the Koran and other religious sources. He reaches out to the best side of religion, and I hope that through his guidance the reasonable and loving people from every culture will find the strength to step forward and assert what is right. Religion is so often a tool of oppression and destruction. It is refreshing to see an American use it to speak for peace. It was exciting to hear him call for a two state solution for Israel and Palestine, to speak openly of the problems in new democracies, and to call everyone out on all sides about their bad behavior. Time to grow up, world. It's about time.

The gift that Obama brings is greater than any lack in his person or policies. He speaks for responsibility, plurality, tolerance and peace; a one world one people vision. I am grateful to have a president who speaks for MY values. The torch of the statue of Liberty is blazing once again. Once again we are lucky enough to have a leader who can see beyond political boundaries to the shared needs and values of humanity.



The one great difference I have with Obama is on the economy. His inaction so far has left us rolling on old momentum down a disastrous slope. America as a nation may well be destroyed if he doesn't take a break soon from studying world religious history to understand the history and import of the Federal Reserve. He let congress have their heads with too much money. While many of his programs are ingenious and will work deep cultural change in the next 10 years, he has neglected to understand the time limit on our current economic paradigm.

For the first time since taking office, Obama has lost the approval of the majority of Americans on his handling of federal spending. Some 51% of Americans disagree with his handling of federal spending. In February he had 59% approval for his overall economic policy, and that has slipped to 55%.

He said in his Cairo speech that America will speak the same things in the world that it does in the back rooms. If that is the case, then he is obviously not having the back room conversations about economic policy that we need him to have. The economic section of his speech was crowded with spending plans and lacked principled substance. He is still listening to the mumbo jumbo that will perpetuate this mess. He isn't talking with Ron Paul yet. And he needs to.

Luckily, there is a bill facing congress that will bring this debate to the fore. It's called the Federal Reserve Transparency Act. If passed this bill would require an audit of the Federal Reserve and the submission of a detailed report to Congress. As of last week this bill (HR 1207) had 222 cosponsors--a majority in Congress. So pretty soon, in time, I have confidence that Obama too will involve himself in the question of what to do about our national bank. I have high hopes that his independent mind will see the changes needed, and begin to implement them in spite of the grand resistance.

Thank you for this post. I have been remiss in keeping up with the news and current events. I've had my head buried in books that don't really matter, but require my attention at this time.

This post gives me continued hope.

Obama is hope incarnate

Happy to help with the hope quotient. I certainly get mine fed by Obama's way of thinking. I love to tune in to Obama because he is one of the most compassionate and intelligent voices in media today. He is changing the world for the better by asking that people of tolerance and reason step up to the plate. He is working to give all of us hope.

One thing he said was that Muslim communities will benefit the cause of peace by ousting those among them who act too radically. I saw a program the other day in which a right wing American Christian said the same thing about ousting vandals and murderers from the anti-abortion movement. Obama was speaking of Palestine when he said that violence is a dead end, that you cannot win your way by violence. By encouraging moderates to prevent the violence of extremists in their midst, we have a chance at peace. It is a brilliant strategy.
