Of course we already knew it, but here's scientific documentation of the relationship between the hardships experienced by a child to severe obesity, physical inactivity, depressed mood, and suicide attempts as well as ischemic heart disease, cancer, chronic bronchitis or emphysema, history of hepatitis or jaundice, skeletal fractures and poor self-rated health.

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study:

I found this by way of Mercola, and the discussion in the comments is interesting:

Yes, I know this news is weeks old. But it was news to me today! Oprah is one of my heroes, so I am happy to see her getting filty rich. Anyway she's going to have her own television network, and it will be on the Discovery Health Channel. It starts mid-08. Fnally I admit there is a reason to have cable TV. Not that I'm going to get it, but if you have cable, I want to watch it at your house.

About Oprah:
"Over the years, there's no one that's better at spotting talent and developing talent and, as chairman of this multimedia company, that's a big strength that we're going to lean on," Zaslav said.
