The Most Alive Moment (Rumi's poem)
Sep. 14th, 2010 09:15 pmThe most living moment comes when
those who love each other meet each
other's eyes and in what flows
between them. To see your face
in a crowd of others, or alone on a
frightening street, I weep for that.
Our tears improve the earth. The
time you scolded me, your gratitude,
your laughing, always your qualities
increase the soul. Seeing you is a
wine that does not muddle or numb.
We sit inside the cypress shadow
where amazement and clear thought
twine their slow growth into us.

Last night I went to a concert of the professional choir known as Cappella Romana, at St. Mary's Cathedral in downtown Portland. Tickets were more than I could afford, so I asked if I might be able to check out the singers "without expenditure", and a single comp ticket was promptly offered. I took the ticket, rode the bus downtown, and attended a lecture by the composer and the concert.

Last Exam Taken
Dec. 11th, 2008 12:39 pmPhew. I am glad that's over. The pathology exam wasn't as hard as I expected, but then, I did study for it most of the day yesterday. I studied in my indirect way---find one thing that he said is important, and look it up until I actually understand it. There are lots of things I didn't even look at, but the things I did look at I believe I will actually remember, for a while at least. I was so engrossed in studying that I missed choir practice. I had meant to go but just didn't notice the time.... I will have to review the music on my own, since I have missed the last two rehearsals prior to the concert. My throat is not entirely better, but I think I can sing enough to contribute to the choir.
The Cat Chronicles
Sep. 17th, 2008 10:50 pmWhen I got home from choir at about 9:30 the door was cracked open, and kitten was sitting on the coffee table meowing at me. I had my hands full. I dropped off my purse and music in my room, then went to the kitchen to put away the 50lbs of organic beef I picked up today, and the carrots & celery and such I got tonight after choir. As I walked out of my room the invader cat raced past my feet, across the living room and out the door. That little halloween-colored invader is scared of me. I don't understand why kitten doesn't kick its ass.

The Cat Chronicles
Jul. 16th, 2008 08:33 amKitten is racing around the livingroom, batting bits of dirt on the slippery almost-wood floor. The lesbian neighbors are getting their yard done. Every week those guys are here trimming and mowing and making the place look like fantasyland. "Cierren la puerta" one of them yells, after the lady yells at him to close the gate, her dog might run away. I would run away too. I did run away. I was going to sunbathe up on the roof but her harsh voice and their mowing was incentive enough to come back inside and braindump instead.

Singing in the Choir
Dec. 25th, 2006 11:26 amMy mother is a member of the choir at her church. When she said they were performing twice on Christmas Eve, I asked if I could sing along. She was very excited that I wanted to share this with her. She called her choir director, and he was eager to assimilate me. I asked what part he needed most and he answered soprano. Apparently the little old ladies in the soprano section have somewhat tiny voices.
