wow. Portland is light years ahead of Atlanta for non car transport infrastructure.

It's true. The trimet system here is impressive. And they're getting ready to add a light rail that goes by my house--where I already have access to 2 bus lines within 2 blocks, and 5 bus lines within 10 blocks. The rail lines speed up transport from the margins of the city. The busses all have bike racks on the front in case you want to change modes.

The only unfortunate thing in my view is the fact that most of the bike routes are on roads with automobiles, instead of being separate trails. The city is too dense to permit trails, except along the river, and there are so many pedestrians on those sections that they are relatively slow bike routes.
