Getting ready to explore the offerings of the local Shambhala Center. Just happened upon a list of their retreat centers and it appears there are none (except for the urban ones) here on the left coast. Hmmm. Still, lots of lovely destinations. I used to travel always in search of whitewater. But there are other ways to find the flow. Now perhaps my travel will be centered around finding peaceful places to meditate. You don't have to carry so much gear.
The founder of Shambhala is the same teacher that inspired the establishment of Naropa University in Colorado, where I almost decided to go.
According to the welcome page:
The Shambhala Meditation Center of Portland is part of an international community of over 180 urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, now led by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. Our center offers public meditation, a core curriculum of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, as well as training in advanced contemplative practices. We invite you to explore our diverse programs designed to help people of all traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humor.
