read slim book The Fasting Primer (her other book was The Nutrition Bible)
by Internationally Renowned Naturual Food and Health Expert
Dr Alvenia M. Fulton, naturopath
who was also a pastor, first woman to attend her seminary
she died at 92 in 1999 in Chicago

Fulton founded the
Fultonia Health Food and Fasting Center
1953 W 63rd St
PO Box 21367
Chicago, Illinois 60621

FASTING
you can't know what it's like until you try it
starvation is not the same as fasting
fasting is the choice not to partake in something
"The pleasures of eating are fleeting
but the pleasures of fasting are lasting
."
recommends combo of fasting, enemas and colonics
"most people can handle a 2-3 day fast on their own"
fasts over 1 week should not be attempted without supervision
fasting is or should be a reeducation of body and mind

CAUTIONS
CV dz, TB, DM, renal dz

COLON CLEANSING
insists colon is full of old hard dried fecal matter that has been there for years
says discomfort during fast is dt stuff still in there
which is why all the colonics and enemas--at least 15 are recommended here

DISCOMFORT EARLY IN FAST
usually gone by day 3-5
tongue coating
light headache
if obese but undernourished: dizzy spells
offensive breath
continuous and large discharge of feces and dark urine
skin eruptions
excessive perspiration
catarrhal discharge

BENEFITS
weight loss
detoxification
enhances male potency and female sexuality
book she recommends: Sexual Expression in Marriage by Donald W Hastings MD
Any woman Can by David Ruben MD

OBESITY
a symptom of overeating
in the tell no one section: "Fat and misery love company. Extremely obese people dislike to lose a member of their fraternity. Perhaps, it reminds them of the unpleasant fact that they are too weak willed to do something about their own excess fat."

FRUIT
used to prep for fast because rich in vits, minerals, enzymes
digested easily without strain to digestive system
alkaline forming

BAD RXNS TO FASTS: REASONS
poor prep
mental/psychological
poor understanding of physiology
poor breaking of fast

TELL NO ONE
"Fasting should be done as the great teacher, Jesus, admonished his disiples to do about prayer. It should be done quietly, with understanding of what is being done, and without ostentation."
for anyone you must tell, disregard their advice
wiser not to tell friends
bad advice may create negative or depressing state of mind

MYTH
you must eat to keep up your strength
she says that strength increases when not eating

FASTING FOR WEIGHT LOSS
you get it over with
easier to fast than to diet
no long term punishment with hunger
during a fast weight loss is inconsistent: you don't lose weight every day
fasting is or should be a reeducation of body and mind

BEST TIME TO FAST
in spring or early summer
when we are 5-10 lbs overweight-->a short fast

she quotes a slogan: "We fast in the spring to remove the effects of winter, and we fast in the fall to winterize ourselves for the long winter siege."

DURATION
her protocol is 26 days: 5 days of prep, 3 weeks of water only
she has fasted for 40 days

PREP
internal cleansing formula
protein formula (buildup)
fresh fruit juice formula
fresh fruit only no bananas
daily enemas
15 colonics minimum at a rate of 2/week

FASTING
live on breakdown of diseased cells, excess fat
wastes are eliminated
skin rashes may appear as process of elimination
warts may disappear
liver, lungs and kidneys are used to eliminate, then rested and refreshed
normalize physical, nervous and mental functioning
calmness, better stress tolerance

DURING THE FAST
in a gallon of distilled water add juice of 1 lemon and 2 TBS honey
drink 8-10 glasses of lemon/honey water per day
for quick pickup she allows a couple 1-2 tsp honey followed by water
also take 2 tabs seaweed and 1 vitamin C tab qid
seaweed to keep the thyroid pumped?
bathe in epson salts daily
wash mout out night and morning
menthol crystals for the breath
keep skin soft with olive or almond oil
colonics before and while fasting

AFTER THE FAST
reduced cravings for stimulants
may find that you have kicked some habits:
cigs, alcohol, coffee, dope

BREAKING THE FAST
her protocol includes one day special diet per 5 days of fasting
no exceptions
never eat too much too soon
chew slowly and thoroughly

FIRST INTAKES
first thing in the morning of breaking the fast:
one quart of unsweetened grape juice mixed with 1 quart water
drink all day

then start Fultonia's dehydrated protein and vegetable formula
add to the formula powder to 1 cup tomato juice and 1 tsp cold pressed olive oil
consume warm
for each day you were fasting, take one day on the broth formula
do not drink fresh fruit or vegetable juices (except I guess for the grape juice)
after day 1 you may have small portions of:
cottage cheese
fresh cooked apples, pears, peaches, papayas, mashed and served with honey
eat no other food until regular meals begin

DIET AFTER FAST
raw fresh veg, fruit, seeds, nuts
observe teeth: not carnivore teeth, made for chewing vegetables not tearing flesh
close to nature
do not return to same diet after fast:
"You must ask yourself: What will I give in exchange for my health and my life? Are you willing to eliminate from your diet all pork and pork products? All fat meats? All grease soaked vegetables? All pastry products and bread made from white flour? All white sugar and products made from white sugar in any form?"
further recommends:
diet 50% vegetarian-->80% of diet vegetable
fresh raw fruit and vegetable juice
steam your veggies
drink the cooking water

KITCHEN TOOLS NEEDED
blender
juicer with lifetime guarantee

"When you do not feel well, do not ask what medicine shall I take, but what have I eaten that is making me ill, or what is lacking in my diet that causes me to become ill? And, is the rhythm of my elimination organs working properly."

"Fat and misery love company. Extremely obese people dislike to lose a member of their fraternity. Perhaps, it reminds them of the unpleasant fact that they are too weak willed to do something about their own excess fat."

that is silly...you can't categorize what people think or feel based on their body weight...I'm obese and happy when I see people losing weight as it's better for their wellness and gives me inspiration and hope. I certainly don't group fat people together as a frat! Obesity is complicated. I don't feel weak willed. The only unpleasant fact is this woman's judgment!

I get your point and I see truth in her point of view too. You are taking action, you are willful, and so her broad strokes don't apply. The truth I see is that when people exist in dysfunctional relationships, when they start to get better from whatever their issues are, their dysfunctional intimates will resist the change. It isn't just about obesity, it can be about just about anything. When you call her silly and question her judgment, and pick on her choice of words (frat) to communicate the bigger idea, you reveal that you have a sore spot there. It's ok, we all have them. I'm working on mine too.

yeah that makes some more sense to me. I didn't intend to call her silly, only her words, and I see I shouldn't have judged as I recognize it was hypocritical of me to judge her words, but of course it did hit a sore spot for me as I disagreed with her sentiment and it hurt to feel judged for a problem I've painfully struggled with for so long.

It's OK to have a sore spot. Being obese in this world is a big pain in the ass, and it isn't easy or obvious how to get started fixing it. And people can treat you downright bad. I know. We all have problems, compensation mechanisms that are not the healthiest. I think that obesity is probably one of the hardest on your self esteem because everybody can see it. The alcoholic or whatever can hide their addiction. So hang in there, cling to your self respect in spite of people calling you weak willed or whatever. You will do what you need to do, it is only a matter of time and baby steps.
