Today in the mail I got a big pile of begging junk. I get a great range of junk, from tree hugger to gun toter junk, and lots of hippieshit for sale. I contribute to almost no one, but sometimes will send $20 cash to a cause just because I'm inspired. The last thing I want to do is give money to a politician which they will then spend on harassing the hell out of me.

So TODAY I get junk mail from the Alley Cat Allies, begging for my money to help make the lives of some ferile CAT better. And I wonder, how (the hell) did THEY get my address?? I have never subscribed to Cat Lover's Magazine.... But I did buy cat stuff at a PETSMART using a CREDIT CARD.

Looks to me like the great database in the sky tracked my CAT to this barn, then sold my information to whoever would pay. Now the clients of the data hoarders have commenced to begging. If I get a barrage of cat shit I'm going back to CASH ONLY. And I'm never ever going to Petsmart again.

As far as I am concerned, my next sushi meal is a LOT more important than some ferile cat buried under a bureacracy.

I get nearly no junk mail. Every time I get something, I call whoever-it-is and tell them to take me off their list. I also signed up for a do-not-mail list (like the do-not-call registry) and that worked for a lot of stuff. The next time you get a credit card offer in the mail, look at the fine print at the bottom of the page. There should be a number you can call to be put onto that list.

That would be pretty amazing if they track you using your credit card data... but I wouldn't put it past them. I've used my debit card to buy fish food at Petsmart - as much as I hate to admit having shopped there, it's close enough to work for me to walk - and I have never gotten any fish junk mail. But, ya just never know...

Maybe the fish supply marketers aren't willing to buy the Petsmart fish purchasers list---I'm sure it's not cheap.

What a lot of work--a phone call for every piece of mail? OK, I'll try it. Egad. I do it for marketing faxes at work.

Thanks, will follow up on that. My determination to evade their tracking varies from season to season. I like to trade "club cards" with anyone who is in the grocery store line. Heh.

Oh, oops, sorry. That was me. Once I learned that you had a cat, I called up every conceivable cat/pet organization and gave them your address. I knew you'd appreciate it!!!!! Just kidding, of course. Isn't that amazing how many people can track you down to your place of residence, just by one purchase? I hope you avoid any future marketing due to credit card tracking.

I never would have guessed you'd give me away to the cat police....
