So what?
Aren't his 16 Olympic medals more impressive?
Or me, I find his chin interesting. He looks like a very high testosterone kid to me.
But back to the issue at hand:
How many people his age in the US have never taken a hit off a bong? What do you think the ratio is? 40% have, 60% haven't? More? Less? I don't have any numbers to cite. I'm just interested in your impression. How rare or strange do you think it is for a 23 year old from Baltimore to be experienced at smoking dope?

Date: 2009-02-02 03:37 am (UTC)Based on stats about how many people go to at least some college (as of 2000, just over 50%), and suspecting that kids that don't go to college also have ample opportunity to try weed, we can guess that marijuana experimentation is probably over 50%, and maybe as high as 75% by age 23. That's my best guesstimate...soon to be revised by more information, I'm sure.

Date: 2009-02-01 10:41 pm (UTC)I agree that he should have said, "Yeah. And I have 8 gold metals."
I would say most people who have been to college have smoked from a bong by 23. They may not own one, but they have used one.

I wonder what proportion of young people DON'T go to college, and of those who does and doesn't discover pot and why.
Ah, here's college stats for 2000 from http://www.censusscope.org/us/chart_education.html:
In the US, in 2000:
21% attended some college, no degree
6% associates deg
16% bachelors deg
9% graduate or professional deg
____
52% of all Americans had some college exposure as of 2000
Swimming
Date: 2009-02-02 07:09 am (UTC)partaking of marijuana is commonplace...
have you heard of the "swimmer's hit"
(that is, large lungs = swimmer's lungs, and are therefore more adept at inhaling said substance)
just saying, I'm sure the media was thrilled to discover this little tidbit about our dear American Olympian Icon.. but we, as the common populace, should be rather disenchanted at this silly bit of news.
No?
