Obama Rocks

liveonearthPeople will believe it if told enough times that black is white. Unfortunately. It appears that the majority of Americans have painfully weak powers of observation and critical reasoning. Such is the embarassment of our land. The Canadians absolutely adore Obama, so I hear, and they can't understand why "we" despise him. I guess those of us who find him to be masterful really need to make more noise. Obama rocks. And this from a person who did not vote for him.
The thing about Obama is that he has the long view. He knows that he is going to get crucified for not bowing to immediate pressures. He is willing to take the hits in order to do the job. He knows that obstruction and personal derogation are the tools that will be used against him. He knows that in the long term, in history, his approach will be borne out. He has given the no-new-taxers every chance to compromise, to negotiate, to be reasonable. Now that they have shown exactly where the line is that they stand behind, he knows how much room he has to play in. His proposals are brilliant. When they come out garbled, it is because congress has f$%ked them up.
I didn't know until today that new drone bases were being constructed in Ethiopia and Seychelles, but I'm not surprised. I know that Obama will be determinedly working to assure that America retains her power, via the military and the economy. He has been quite handicapped by our insane congress, but he is still doing the work, researching and understanding the situation, making wise executive decisions. That NPR will actually parrot the words that he is weak etc is proof that the media is a great self perpetuating parroting machine. Even media that we'd like to think is independent.
I am noticing the black cloud attached to the silver lining of today's final ending of DADT. Now your gay children can join the military and get shot too. They can get blown to bits by roadside bombs. Now the social stratification that ensures that the majority of people who die for our country are from poor families includes gays and lesbians. Aren't we proud? We send our gays and poor people abroad to risk their necks. Who is next? What other population can we afford to sacrifice? Pols and their offspring?
Of course it is true that if a young person fights in the military and comes back with enough pieces intact, they may be well qualified to serve in other ways. They could be our wise men. But painfully many don't come home intact. And more are mentally broken than anybody wants to admit.

EXCLUSIVE | The Obama administration is constructing secret bases for counterterrorism drones in the Horn of Africa and Arabian Peninsula as part of a newly aggressive campaign to attack al-Qaeda affiliates in Somalia and Yemen, U.S. officials said.
One of the installations is being established in Ethiopia, a U.S. ally in the fight against al-Shabab, the Somali militant group that controls much of the country. Another base is in the Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, where a small fleet of MQ-9 Reaper drones resumed operations this month after an experimental mission demonstrated that the unmanned aircraft could effectively patrol Somali territory.

Date: 2011-09-21 02:47 am (UTC)I must say that I am unconvinced of the quality of Obama as a US president by the pointing out that foreign nations like him. Particularly nations with rather notable anti-US sentiments.
Keep your critical thinking hat on and avoid cults of personality, they will steer you wrong every time.
If you'd like to engage in point-by-point, I can play that game without limits, I am *not* pleased with the Obama presidency, and I do not believe that history will be kind to him.
I say all this as someone that was in fact, rather excited by Obama in the early primaries.

Date: 2011-09-21 03:19 pm (UTC)Need I mention that based on the thousands of sources I have read and the reams of information I have gathered, I an profoundly unimpressed with Obama? I find him an incompetent ideologue and personally offensive in every possible way.
I am tired of being referred to as "the enemy" by my president, tired of his third world dictator outreach program, tired of him offending our allies, tired of class warfare rhetoric, tired of the busines climate uncertainty that makes it a guarantee that there will be no economic recovery. I blame him *personally* for the current condition of the economy, for the level of unemployment, for the fractitiousness of the current political landscape. I have watched in horror as he has openly disregarded any suggestion of constitutional limits, has openly wished to rule rather than governing, has extended the power of the presidency vastly beyond the constitutional limitations, has implemented illegal programs, and continued to implement them in violation fo court orders, has engaged in crony-ism to a genuinely unprecedented degree. I have sat in bafflement as he has proposed the growth of government into every aspect of human endeavor and demonized anyone that would dare oppoose his grand plans. Every initiative he has endorsed has been a complete failure, he has deliberately damaged the US while helping our competitors and enemies. I could go on... for a long time. If you want to know what I am talking about with any given point, feel free to ask.
