four main types
osmotic dt magnesium, lactase def, or too much carb intake incl enfood, avoid fruit juice
secretory dt host response to bact entoxins
exudative dt mucosal damage, leaking of mucus, blood, plasma leakage, usudt radiation or UC
allergic: often alternating with constipation
TREATMENT FOR ACUTE DIARRHEA
very fine psyllium husks to bind up fluids
bentonite clay
charcoal (don't be shy, can't go wrong, will adsorb toxins)
remove simple carbohydrates: no fruit juices
supplement pancreatic enzymes
if lactase def no lactose or give enzyme with food
eat cultured foods incl acidophilus bugs
he uses acidophilus bifidus for cats
miso soup, rice water and rice:
make white rice and use too much water, give milky water with miso added
miso is good electrolyte source
carob powder slurry mixed with warm water, slurp it down, for kids he may mix with apple sauce
pectin
avoid coffee especially but anything caffeinated, and other irritants
lactobacillus to acidify and fight other bugs
garlic may make things worse
hydrastis if there is a bacterial infx
PERSISTENT DIARRHEA
suspect parasites, they hide, but they are there
"you can never spend enough time or energy looking for parasites"
he gives books, "Guess who came to dinner" etc to pts who he needs to convince
SX: rectal itching
full body itching mb parasites, cancer or vit K, chlorinated water
travel?
1) check for protozoa (most prevalent, 10% of world)
2) entameobe histolytica
3) giardia
4) cryptosporidium, other sporozoa: isospora, blastocystis
5) don't forget bacteria: C. dificile is common dt ABX overuse
other:
balantidium coli is a ciliate
tape worms

Diagnostecs does well for him, he likes Genova too
TREATMENT FOR GIARDIA, CRYPTO, ENTAMOEBA
5 day fast using dilute fruit juice (pineapple)
bromelain 4500mcu (about 3000 gelatin dissolving usits, 1.5 is conversion)
(550mg) caps, 3 caps tid
oxyquinolin sulfate Kollesol (Luties) 5 tabs qid
is that still available??? strong sulfur containing compound that def kills parasitse
tastes awful, bitter
pancreatic enzymes
mabye also:
10 clove garlic/day, may cause diarrhea
artemesia annua, Thorne
grapefruit seed extract-paracan
also give charcoal or bentonite clay to soak up dead parasites & toxins
TINCTURE; berberis and goldenseal
ITM for Chinese herbal formulas, 20th and Hawthorne, has great parasite formula by Sabuti
oregano oil, tea tree oil, 2-3 caps/day for 2-3 weeks, go up on dose gradually
LAST DITCH TREATMENT
flagyl, it's pretty toxic plus you have the Herxheimer rxn
he recommends pre-treating with milk thistle
