YES! I have been ruminating on exactly the same point.
When or how is venting not complaining? The intent of venting is to let off steam---by putting words to the situation--but under what conditions is it not complaining? Venting has emotional force behind it, it is an overflow of frustration or anger...I suppose if you do it just once, it's venting, but if you have to do it over and over, it's not?
Problem solving is pretty clear to me. The intention is to seek ideas, evaluate options, and reach informed decisions based on the specifics of the situation.
When you say active listening, what do you mean? Asking questions?
