Good to hear back from you, my hope is to offer some insight from where I'm seated.
In reference to the "out of alignment" conversation... First, from the many years that I’ve known John, it seems to me that he doesn't mind resistance at all. Rather, I think he feels having different viewpoints helps us all think more clearly and insightfully. He tells us that he’s against dogma and people just blindly following authority without question. In fact, I think he’s resistant to the indoctrination of people who aren't thinking for themselves. It’s my impression that John was fiery in Portland because it seemed one of the certified Anusara yoga teachers came to the workshop somewhat unprepared. The certified Anusara yoga teachers have chosen to align with the doctrine of Anusara yoga because it's right for us in our hearts and in our minds – I think it's the violation of that alignment that we’ve chosen to commit to that gets John fired up.
(And no, I haven't had the blessing of studying anatomy with Martin Kirk, but I've heard wonderful things about it!)
