Hitler Had Gas

Perhaps he was tormented by flatulence as this author suggests:

I suppose it would take a sick man to do what he did.

Also, on Hitler's diet---I wouldn't have expected him to be a vegetarian, but apparently there is discussion of this question in some circles:

I first became aware of this back in around 1997 or so, when I ordered the book Guide to Bodily Fluids. I highly recommend this book.

There is a whole section on famous people with medical problems related to urine, feces and flatulence. Although I've forgotten almost all of them, the Hitler citation was brief and always stuck with me:

"Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), troubled by chronic, uncontrollable farting, took charcoal pills and even nonlethal amounts of strychnine and belladonna in attempts to control the gas." (p. 77)

You'd like the book, I assure you.

If you find trivial information on bile, sebum and such interesting then yeah, I think it's the best book on the topic without being overly technical.

Actually, I'm more interested in charismatic leaders and what makes them do what they do. Seems like most live in some denial of their bodies.

Perhaps. But if you have chronic flatulence, wouldn't YOU try to hide it?
