This guy--Gavin C Schmitt--has a better understanding of modern world events than most. I need to read him more carefully. I found him because he commented on the fact that I put the wrong picture up on the Ron Paul post. He's on LJ, let me go find his handle....
Edit: unlocked. Also, GCS's handle is

And thanks, by the way... I take pride in my interest in world events, and it means a lot to me when someone notices. I need the encouragement. Otherwise I give in to peer pressire and write the essays that get the most hits (which, sadly, is stupid shit like Tom Cruise's preferred snack at Dairy Queen).

I definitely intend to run for office at some point. I do not expect to win and frankly don't care if I do. My goal would simply to get into the debates to widen the conversation. (We get so locked into Democrat v. Republican debates, we often don't realize how slim of a difference there is and how there are MANY other ways to look at things.)
I don't care about Tom Cruise, either. It was just a way to get the site higher on Google.

It is definitely not easy to get into the debates in any fruitful way unless you are a candidate. And if you run, there is a chance that you could win. There are a heckuva lot of us starving for someone we could really back. Would you be up for that? What if you won?
Just wonderin'...

But yeah, I've thought about running for Congress (as a Representative) just to get in on debates and in the newspaper more. I worked on a campaign last fall (which won), so I have a pretty good idea how that works.
I definitely know the things I WOULDN'T do.

I did it a few times (made about 1800 calls) and I just didn't feel right about it. For every person who had increased name recognition or had a question or concern addressed, there were five that were very upset that they were being solicited.
So, I wouldn't do that. I'll focus much more on yard signs, because I strongly believe that's what drives most people to vote.
yard signs!!!?
