Mexican Food in Portland: La Calaca Comelona

The search goes on. "We need to read our reviews closer or somethin'. That was just way out there." is what Suzanne just said about the restaurant we went to tonight. I picked it. I read some foodie newsletter that bragged on this place, and then a guy who lives a few blocks from there said it was really good. La Calaca Comelona is the name of the place, it's on Belmont. Here's the pretty website: http://www.lacalacacomelona.com/. Someone more artistic flair is running the place.

Mexican Food in Portland: El Mezcal

On our way back into Portland after the weekend at Mt Bachelor, Suzanne and I finally found a Mexican restaurant worth reporting about. I was driving, and we were coming into town on Powell Blvd, and had not yet crossed the I-205. I saw a little "Mexican Mall" complete with signage in Spanish, fluttering banners and a big heap of old appliances out front. I was hungry and pulled right in.

Midnight Rain

Yesterday I did a few more home-making errands, such as buying a kettle that whistles so I won't burn any more pots on the stove. I bought a gallon each of vinegar and bleach, and cleaned my bathroom for the 3rd time. I washed the walls first with vinegar, then with bleach, and the green colored water revealed that I was actually removing the paint from the walls. I left a fan blowing out the window to remove the fumes. I cleaned under and behind everything, scrubbed the trim, pulled all the hair and bandaids out of the heating vents, washed all the towels and rugs, cleaned the litter box and took out the trash. After it was all done I had a hopeful moment that the smell would be gone, but it's still there. I can burn incense in there every day until I die and that smell will still be in there. I may try some commercial products that cover or "eat" odors.

So I remain open to other living arrangements.
