I've had that same feeling of despair for several weeks now - not so much over the disaster of the rig itself, but of the effects of the oil in water and on land, to all creatures that it comes into contact with.

The story makes it apparent that hypothetical safety procedures are not realistic in an emergency situation such as that. That young woman should be commended for her actions, IMO.
